Moreau Art Galleries

The Moreau Art Galleries (MAG) at Saint Mary’s College (Notre Dame, IN) is comprised of three exhibition spaces: Sister Rosaire Gallery, Little Theatre Gallery, and Hammes Gallery. The Galleries present student and professional exhibitions of regional, national, and international Contemporary Art, which are challenging both formally and thematically.  The primary mission of the Moreau Art Galleries is to present exhibitions that serve the educational, cultural, and pedagogical needs of the students of the Department of Art, as well as those students in other departments of Saint Mary's College.  Additionally, the Galleries serve the greater Saint Mary's College community of Staff, Faculty, and Administrators, as well as the larger South Bend and Indiana regions.

The Galleries host a diverse schedule of events, including student exhibitions (annual Portfolio Reviews, Senior Comprehensive Exhibitions, and the summer Juried Student Exhibitions), as well as professional exhibitions (two annually). The professional exhibitions have recently been combined with our Department’s Visiting Artist Program (VAP) so that the artist’s presence on campus – through a series of activities, lectures, student critiques, and a reception of their work – provide the students and larger campus community with a deeper engagement with the artist and his/her practice and processes.

The Gallery Director heads the Moreau Art Galleries. The Director oversees the annual calendar of events and activities, and is supported by the Department of Art Staff Assistant.  A number of student workers staff the Tool Checkout area of the Galleries, providing them with additional expertise and knowledge of the administrative workings of a professional gallery space.

Gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 10am-5pm, and Saturday from 12-2pm.  The schedule is coordinated with the College’s academic calendar, and as such is closed during the times the campus is closed. The gallery hours are limited during the summer and are by appointment only.
